Council to offer new planning guidance

More detailed requirements for the canalside site

Posted - Jun 25, 2013

Oxford City Council has started to prepare a Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) for the canalside site. This will act as a 'development brief' and offer developers further guidance on how the City will implement policies within the local plan for this important site. The Jericho Wharf Trust believes that this is an important step forward. The SPD will support the efforts we have already been making to inform the site owners of the constraints and opportunities for this site. The Council says "We are very keen for the site to be developed in a manner that makes the best use of the site for the community of Jericho whilst reflecting the character of the surrounding area." "The Development Brief will set more detailed design parameters that any future purchaser or developer of the site should work to, such as the size and locations of buildings, how the canal frontage should be used and what characteristics of the area should be reflected in the design." As a part of this process, a local consultation will be held at the Jericho Community Centre on Wednesday 10 July from 3.30 pm-7.30 pm. Local people can drop in at any time over this period to give their views. Further information is available from the Planning Policy team on 01865 252847 or planningpolicy@oxford.gov.uk.
